Purchasing a Wine Rack

By David Tupniak

While the manufacturing and storing of wine has been going on for centuries, they've developed a simple solution for a bit of family wine storage; the wine rack. You'll find that wines need to be stored at a 45° angle once they're bottled. This allows the wine to keep the cork moist and swelled sealing the wine in the bottle.

Wines can be damaged by too much sunlight, too much heat, and even freezing, so the storage of your wines is almost as important as the selection of wine you choose. There are a variety of different types of wine racks, and you'll find that most wine collectors have at least one if not a complete wall system for storing wines. Wine racks have been specially made so that your bottles will slide in and out easily and still be kept at a 45° angle to preserve your wine. You can make them simply and efficiently at home or you can purchase them just about anywhere in the world, but finding one that fits in with your own home decor is kind of nice.

There are a variety of different sizes and materials that wine racks are made from. You can purchase a wine rack for as little as three bottles, or you'll actually find a wine rack for 50 bottles or more. They can be made from wood, metal, and just about any other material to fit in with your own personal decoration style. Cost will vary just as much as materials and the number of bottles stored.

Shopping online is becoming a great way to save yourself money and be able to purchase better quality racks than if you're at your downtown store. There's no doubt that a downtown store can have many sales and you might get lucky and pick up a good wine rack to match your decor downtown, but shopping online can be done on your own time span and there are wine rack sales there as well. You'll be able to browse different wine making sites, different wineries, and of course wine specialist stores to find the wine rack that fits within your home.

It really doesn't matter what the wine rack looks like, it can be plywood sheets shaped to keep the bottles at a 45° angle, or it can fit right in with your home decor in style. But the important part is to keep your wines stored at that 45° angle and a wine rack is going to be the easiest way to do that whether it's simple and efficient or complex and beautiful. So if you noticed that you started collecting wines, it's time to start shopping for wine rack.
