I believe one glass of wine = 5 ounces.

Not sure what to buy your friends or relatives this Christmas? Well, why not opt for a wine gift? It’s a definite crowd pleaser, looks classy and can be bought from the comfort of your armchair, so you simply can’t go wrong with it.

Buying wine gifts is easy. Just follow a few handy tips below and you’ll have your Christmas shopping sorted in no time.

The simplest piece of advice to remember is that sparkles always go down well. Whether you are buying for your Great Aunt or best mate, for a 50th wedding anniversary or 21st birthday, champagne is always well received. It looks elegant and tastes great.

If you are buying for a range of people and are not sure what to buy for who, you can generally expect that people over the age of 50 will prefer Old World wine, whilst people under the age of 50 are more likely to opt for New World wines.

When buying for your partner or loved one, the best option is to choose something that you are both going to enjoy. Go for a bottle you know you both will love or a mixed case of both of your favourites and you are bound to impress.

If you are looking to make an impact with your wine, why not go for a pre-packaged wine gift? Many wine retailers usually have a range of wine gifts available, which have been carefully prepared for that special occasion. And if you want to go the extra mile, always opt for a wooden gift box. They are a great way of making a bottle of wine look even more perfect, for relatively little extra cost.

Always remember to personalise your gifts with a message. Whether you’ve opted for a case of wine or something from the gift selection, a short message will make it meaningful for the lucky recipient.

For comfort and stress-free shopping, make sure you buy online. Buying from an online wine retailer will mean that you can complete your gift shopping in the cosy surroundings of your own home without the hustle and bustle of supermarket trolleys, Christmas Shoppers and pushy sales assistants. What’s more, unlike traditional retailers, online retailers aren’t restricted by space and don’t have so many hefty overheads, so it means that they can offer a wider range of products at lower prices.

Finally, make sure your buy early, particularly if you are ordering online. Whilst online retailers will often promise to order within a few days, there’s nothing worse than a present arriving late. Make sure you don’t disappoint and place your order with a couple of extra days notice, particularly at Christmas, which is always a busy time.

Wine comes in a variety of flavors and styles, the most is fermented from one type of a grape or another, looking to increase the sugar content to convert the fruity yeasty mass into alcohol. There are as many varieties in color, taste and texture, as there are wineries the world over. Many wineries find their particular region grows grapes with a particular taste. They start adding in other grapes and flavors to the wine, trying to find a wine that will get a world-class designation.

While you may find the purchasing of wine a bit confusing, the storing of wine is really rather quite simple. You want to take a few considerations when it comes to storing your wine as connoisseurs of wine consider that the way it's being stored is as important as how was made. The way you store the wine will designate how it continues to ferment, how it will end up tasting, as well as the alcohol content.

You want to take humidity into consideration when it comes to storing your wine. If it's too moist or stored in too humid, it can degrade the cork that could eventually be great enough to lose the quality of the wine by dispensing the aroma and alcohol content into the air. Ideally, your wine should be stored with 70% humidity, although 50% to 80% will work. Although humidity does not directly affect the wine, materials such as the cork or cardboard boxes will be affected. Once the box or cork is destroyed due to humidity, air, dust, and temperatures begin to deteriorate the wine.

You'll also need to take temperature into consideration as well, quickly changing temperatures or erratic temperature affect the quality of the wine because it can prematurely age your wine. Ideally, store your wine from 50°F to 55°F.

You'll also want to pay attention to illumination, excess light will actually age your wine faster. Those that are stored in clear bottles will age at a quicker rate than those stored in dark colored bottles. While light does seep through the colored bottles, the direct effect of ultraviolet rays has a tendency to give a distasteful odor to your wine and may actually damage it.

There are those who also would like to see the wine bottle stored at a 45° angle, keeping the cork swelled enough on the bottom to hold air, light and humidity out of the wine. There are special containers that are meant to hold wine at a 45° angle that you can purchase, or you can make them simply yourself.

Although it may not seem important, storage of your wines can become vital if their stored hastily or in a bad area.

As one of our oldest beverages known to man, wine has a mystique and cultural significance, and is now known in some ways to be a healthy completion to a meal. Well known for cleaning the palate, wine adds a sense of comfort and passion to a meal, and the type of meal you're preparing decides the type of wine you serve.

Wine is produced all over the world and each distinct area produces its own flavors and types. Australian wines are becoming very popular and are making a name for themselves the world over. With wide-open spaces available in Australia, an enormous variety of wines are being produced with traditional practices, as well as contemporary and new types of varieties being blended and fermented as a regular practice.

White wine is a favorite of many and in Australia they offer a unique taste that stands out and stands alone. While they vary in color, according to what part of the country produced them, it's well known that the deeper the color, the richer the flavor. Most come in a yellow hue of some sort and the technique of swirling the wine glass, and then sniffing the aroma gives you a very nice fully ripened grape smell.

The red wines of Austria have an unbelievable classic taste and according to different climates and conditions produce different flavors within the red wine class. If it's a warmer climate wine, you'll find it more flavorful and richer, while the cooler climate brings lighter, delicate red wine tastes.

In Australia they're also making fortified wines with a longer fermentation process compared to the other varieties. Often blended with a brandy in order to emphasize the alcohol taste in the wine, it also helps to retain the flavor and color of the original wine product. This concentration, varies according to the length of fermentation process, with some left fermenting for decades.

The Australian dessert wine is another category, often distinguished by the texture of the wine itself as a honey like or glutinous texture that's actually a naturally occurring fungus. The natural fungus retains moisture, increasing the sugar concentration along with the acidity and also retaining flavor. Best served with fruit desserts, soft or blue cheeses or other desserts that will balance the acidity as well as complement the desert itself.

While the production of wine in Austria has been going on for centuries, it hasn't been until last several decades that Australian winemakers have made a name for themselves in the wine industry. Each region in Australia can produce a wine with about the same process, and yet according to the climate and soil, produce a very distinctive wine known by its regional designation.

While the manufacturing and storing of wine has been going on for centuries, they've developed a simple solution for a bit of family wine storage; the wine rack. You'll find that wines need to be stored at a 45° angle once they're bottled. This allows the wine to keep the cork moist and swelled sealing the wine in the bottle.

Wines can be damaged by too much sunlight, too much heat, and even freezing, so the storage of your wines is almost as important as the selection of wine you choose. There are a variety of different types of wine racks, and you'll find that most wine collectors have at least one if not a complete wall system for storing wines. Wine racks have been specially made so that your bottles will slide in and out easily and still be kept at a 45° angle to preserve your wine. You can make them simply and efficiently at home or you can purchase them just about anywhere in the world, but finding one that fits in with your own home decor is kind of nice.

There are a variety of different sizes and materials that wine racks are made from. You can purchase a wine rack for as little as three bottles, or you'll actually find a wine rack for 50 bottles or more. They can be made from wood, metal, and just about any other material to fit in with your own personal decoration style. Cost will vary just as much as materials and the number of bottles stored.

Shopping online is becoming a great way to save yourself money and be able to purchase better quality racks than if you're at your downtown store. There's no doubt that a downtown store can have many sales and you might get lucky and pick up a good wine rack to match your decor downtown, but shopping online can be done on your own time span and there are wine rack sales there as well. You'll be able to browse different wine making sites, different wineries, and of course wine specialist stores to find the wine rack that fits within your home.

It really doesn't matter what the wine rack looks like, it can be plywood sheets shaped to keep the bottles at a 45° angle, or it can fit right in with your home decor in style. So if you noticed that you started collecting wines, it's time to start shopping for wine rack.
